The parade was really impressive today. The central Square was blocked off from traffic, and about 300 men & women marched on the square in full uniform, weapons over the shoulder, to drums and horns and applause from the crowd. Continue reading →

After some nervous moments at the train stations trying to get directions in French, we made it to Arras and our hotel just after dinner yesterday. The city is gorgeous, with narrow winding streets clogged with cars, pedestrians and cafe seating. The architecture is stunning, and the cathedrals sure are impressive! We walked around for quite a while trying to find the Canadian Information office, but finally found it tucked in the back of an old building. Inside we were able to reserve a spot on the bus up to Vimy on Monday for the main event, and even lucked out with a ride to the Memorial that night for the lighting ceremony! Continue reading →
