Baldy II – the scramble continues

When we reach Baldy South there is a group of 10 or more people up there, with the youngest I saw maybe being 50(?). I am pretty much mentally put in my place, and I sincerely hope I am still doing stuff like this when I am their age.

When I come puffing up the ridge to the peak like Thomas the Tank Engine I look at them all and say “well crap, why didn’t anyone tell me there was a shuttle bus up here?!?!”

They all laugh and we carry on… down a massive scree slope to the connecting ridge to Baldy West.

on top of Mt. Baldy…

I figure that if you are still dead tired a full day after doing a hike, you know it was pushing you to the limits and beyond.

My friend Jon gets back in town a little while ago and asks who would like to go for a “hike”. I have some vacation time I can use, so I take the day off on Wednesday and go for a casual stroll up Mt. Baldy with Jon, Sean, and Bono.

not the King

I really liked that game Citadels.
I eagerly anticipate playing it again.
One family’s Citadel games are coming to an end.

I hope the Amazing Rando didn’t make too much of a mess.

I need Finals predictions.

I would like a gumball, but they lose their flavour too fast.

I really did like that game Citadels.

May long camping…

The first weekend of camping for 2007 is officially in the books. huzzah!

It was great on Friday and most of Saturday as it was mostly sunny and warm, and for some odd reason the campground never really got full. My guess is people took what they were seeing in Calgary as how it was in the mountains, but they couldn’t have been more wrong.

Road trip: Feist & Chad VanGaalen

So The Girl and I made our way out to sunny Regina last Tuesday for to see Feist play some ditties. Imagine yourself front row, just right of centre (probably the only time I’ll use those words to describe myself – ha!), literally no more than a dozen feet away from one of Canada’s greatest singers. It was fairly intense to say the least! Continue reading

Savary Island 1999

drawing in of a sunset

soft frozen frame
slow-motion explosion
wisps and rays in synchronous flare
angel-wing mist amberly creeping
in a glacier-fast jettison
over stale-blood mahoganies, full tired violets, deceased navies
silhouetted broken toothed shoreline
a holy volcanic-glow filling
the tight hanging cloudline
lifting up an eccentric snaking gray

a gull, primordial black from my vantage
alights onto a rock as dark

the horizon shifts unnoticeably

momentarily feather and stone merge
a geometrically awkward natural unity
pulse of vein and water

into oblong bands of ochre, jaundice, and mountain
now like thick strips of bright burning kleenex
calm wetness ripples crimson
in response

the bird now gone

crisp salty breeze warms my skin
and i smile

summer 1999

quiet, too quiet…

only 3 posts so far for May?

I guess it is up to me to shake the dust off this place and post something.

so what do I talk about?

hmmm…

I’ll be back later with something more to say… and by that I mean something people might actually want to read.
