ticket to kilomantra

Well, we have found some lovely folks out here in the Okanagan to play games with. Last night we told them all about the Magic Satchel games nights that take place in Calgary and they were pretty eager to get one started here in Kelowna.

And the crazy games people own these days! Whether it is a game like Survive! from their childhood or the railway-building stategy game Ticket to Ride, people sure bring out some crazy games when they know you are open-minded! Thanks Jay & Amy, it was fun!

So there may soon be a Kelowna chapter of the Magic Satchel Games Night! We probably won’t call it “Yoshirolla’s Magic Satchel” because Condoleezza would undoubtedly give us the smack-down for disrespecting her satchel.

Hopefully we can take a road trip up to Vernon soon to check out the big toy/games store there. But Canada Day may involve some Vancouver nonsense. I hope My Jedi Friend is prepared.

Soon, a dance.

  1. hellacool. glad to see the magic of the satchel is spreading.

Ticket to Ride (europe?) was one of the pile I had when I went to the games store in North Hill mall, but I opted for Niagara and Citadels instead. look them up on boardgamegeek.com for pictures and reviews.

how did Ticket to Ride play? I figured it would be similar to Settlers so that is why I didn’t get it.

As for us Alberta folks, 23 poke-decks have been prepared (a LOT of work), chairs are ready, table plans are set… Friday is looking satchel-riffic! :D

  2. Sounds like friday should be awesome! Wish we could be there. Will hopefully be in Revelstoke for the Blues Festival but there may be a little too much work to do.

Ticket to Ride (it was Europe) was really good. Easy to pick up but open to a wide range of strategies. Not all that similar to settlers, quite different in fact.

Citadels was a pretty awesome choice though! (Even Yoshirolla Kilomantra thinks so!)

    Complete list here.

    Spread satchel spread!

  3. Did you do teams or just fun singles play? And who won – Yoshirolla Kilomantra?? ;)

Any plans to be in Calgary next month? I think it’s my turn for the July Satchel, so let me know if I should be leaning towards certain dates. I’m thinking either the second or third weekend, as the first and fourth are already booked.

  4. Ticket to Ride is a singles game where you try and complete routes between various cities. You are specifically trying to complete either routes that you have the Route Card for or just long routes cause they are worth a lot. Different routes require different coloured train-cars, though some routes are grey, so you can use any one colour for that route. There are also locomotive cards and little plastic train stations.

And sadly Mr. Kilomantra came second as I managed to pull a rookie win out of my arse.

Calgary in July yes. Maybe we should host it in Canmore on July 21st. I will pass the idea on to Jen.

  5. Ooh, a Canmore Satchel would be very nice! As long as there’s either a) room on the floor to crash or b) room for tents outside :D

  6. plenty of room inside, but if you want to tent set it up on the deck :D

July 21… that works for me but wow my weekends are filling up in a hurry… July is almost fully booked, and I usually don’t know what I’m doing more than a day or two in advance.
