At what time are we looking to start the game of disk golf. And as this is the first games night I will be attending I will bring but one game and that is wine opoly. Not that we need a reason to drink a wobbly pop or to but because it might be fun. Should I also bring some chalk for a quick game of hopscotch.

you mean you will wear the backpack full of beer and ice? sweet!

back to the matter at hand, I think I will just bring the 3 games I listed previously (minus Globetrotters)... others are too long or already owned and being brought by other people.

Using the rankings and other extensive information at boardgame geek, I have come to the conclusion that for satchel nights we should definitely be looking to add / bring games that are of the "medium" category or below (found in the statistics section of their reviews).

Generally these are games that can be finished in around an hour, are easy to learn, have a fairly broad appeal, and don't involve so much strategy that they paralyze a player for a half an hour trying to decide what they feel is the fate of the game each and every turn. I checked almost every game I own, and they all fit the requirement... except for hungry hungry hippos. that dang game could go forever! :D

That being said, I am all for a non-satchel gathering where LOTR risk, Axis and Allies (I really want to try one of the "smaller" games, like D-day), or this WoW game get a good seeing to. I just don't see it working on a Satchel night, when I find massive group interaction and changing games 3 or 4 times in a night are the most fun I've had.

For future games nights, whether Satchel or not, would anyone be interested in playing the World of Warcraft boardgame? There's a pretty thorough video of the game setup here: http://www.boardgameswithscott.com/?p=69. It's definitely not a casual game, with a playing time of 4-6 hours (!), but looks like a lot of fun.

Niagara, Survive!, Citadels, Globetrotters.

maybe more once I take a look at my games at home, but I believe this will be my contribution to the great pile o' games to choose from.

Josh has a shiny new race car edition of mille bornes that needs to be broken in, so I'll leave mine at home.
