no, but you are a big freakin’ lake.

Jen & Dave starting the Kelowna Weekend to End Breast Cancer

Howdy Calgary!!!

So, the first stretch of the 60km Kelowna chapter of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer is done: 10km through downtown Kelowna and along a Knox Mountain to the Paul’s Tomb recreation area. It was a windy afternoon/evening and the rain was pleasantly light and sporadic. Lovely weather for a hike.

Below is the route we took to get to the Crown Lookout parking lot on Knox Mountain .

We started from Kelowna’s downtown Cultural District between Prospera Place, home of the Kelowna Rockets, and the Rotary Center for the Arts. We then walked by the Grand and along the wetlands boardwalk by Brandt’s Creek and then through part of the industrial area to the base of Knox Mountain (not really a mountain by Rockies standards). Then up tp the Crown Lookout parking lot we hiked, which is where the Paul’s Tomb trail begins. (The 2 km from this parking lot to the Paul’s Tomb recreation are not on the map above.)

Okangan Lake from Paul's Tomb

At Paul’s Tomb picnic & recreation area we had a bit of a break, took some photos of the oddly ocean-like waves coming into the bay and then turned around for the return trip home. Mom, we thought you should know that Jen also took advantage of what she referred to as “the cleanest port-a-poti ever!” complete with a Purell dispenser in it!

We got home in good time to cook the lasagna, do a quick load of cold-water wash, prepare tomorrow’s lunch, share a half bottle of wine, and then slink off to bed. Tomorrow is the big day as we have 30km to hike. We are breaking it up into a 15km loop, a 11km straight in and back, (both of which will be on the Myra-Bellevue trails) and then a final 4km on the nice flat pavement around our neighbourhood.

We love you mom. You are the walking inspiration.

I love the photos. The waves on the Bay do look impressive.

I hope today’s (Saturday) walk went well and that your feet, knees, and hips are not protesting too loudly tonight. I did an eleven kms walk today – by myself. This is the first time that I have done a walk around Canmore by myself. Dad was busy installing the fire-rated door between the two levels. It looks great – starting to give the unification of the two levels a much more finished look.

As part of my walk, I took the small trail behind the Seniors Centre – admired the flowers (still looking very good) on the large deck and enjoyed warm thoughts of your very special wedding last August. Then after stopping at Starbuck’s for a steamed milk, I made my way to the engine bridge and again wallowed in memories via photos of your wedding and Nicole and Matt’s. I walked along the same path that forms the background of the shot where Nicole, Jen, Danelle, and Kat are doing their best not to shiver during the one photo without the wraps or muffs.

It’s definitely bedtime now so a big good-night hug to both of you and yeah for team Kelowna. You two are amazing! I love you very, very much.

    Mom
