My blackberry is dead, the charger is broken, and we haven’t had much luck finding Internet cafes – definitely not conducive to regular blog updates. The “quick update” from the other day was supposed to have a few extra paragraphs too… I’ll add them now. Here goes a long one ![]()
We managed to get a hotel and transportation figured out in Arras on Thursday, and ended up getting out to Vimy Ridge no problem. Sure was a different trip this time around, as we were able to tour the trenches and tunnels that were far too crowded last time. And the monument itself was even more breathtaking with so few people around… I think our pics will turn out exceedingly well. The rain even held off until the minute we got back to Arras… so nice for a change! It’s rained pretty much every day since we arrived, so a little break was very much appreciated.
From Arras we went straight to Brussels on Friday. Got a very cute hotel room in one of the central squares, and had a really good (but very short) tour of the city. Didn’t take too many pictures, but bought a TON of chocolate, ate waffles and fries all day, and drank some very, very good beer at Delirium (over two thousand different types available!) We were leaving just as the Pride Parade was about to kick off – that would’ve been a sight to see! Holland was calling us though… it’s good to be back
We arrived here in Amsterdam right around dinnertime, found our hostel no problem (the Flying Pig!), and are looking forward to an excellent next 2 days. The only upsetting part is that we can’t find a laundromat that’s open on Sundays, and the air is too humid to do sink washing and dry on a line. Time to get creative I guess! We found the BEST Indian place for dinner, and are thoroughly stuffed now. Should be a fairly early night tonight, as we’re planning to take in the Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum and Torture museum tomorrow, as well as a canal tour.
That’s it for tonight. Now that we know where this place is I should be able to write more before we leave.

MMM…. Apple Beer
MMMMMMMM….have one for me too and wishing you sunny days ahead.
I didn’t ask for a ton of chocolate, just 500 pounds
can’t wait to see some of the pictures of the ridge and monument. much like a hiking trail, things like that are always better and more enjoyable if you can hit them away from the crowded times.
(thinks about the lighthouse at Cape Reinga)
You need to hit up the Heineken Brewery tour too. When I went many moons ago it was really cheap and fun. Take the first of the 4 tours within the hour. You get more beer at the end. Can’t wait to see all the pictures.
Agh, no time for the Heineken tour! The Rijksmuseum topped my list today, so beer will have to wait until next time. Excited to try your suggestions for Prague though
