After wandering around a quickly darkening Caen for almost an hour trying to find a place to stay we ended up at a great little spot called Hotel du Havre. Found dinner at a nice Asian place, had some sake, and shared a very small bed for our first night. It was heavenly after our first mildly stressful travel day…
We woke up to another beautiful morning, and our French Spring tans are starting to show up quite nicely. We took a bus North towards Juno Beach, after getting some much needed help from the tourist office. Of course we read the bus schedule wrong though, and ended up at Berniers sur Mer vs. Coursoulles sur Mer (I’ll check my spelling later). It was a nice walk of a few km to CsM, and then a few more to the Juno Museum, so by the time we arrived we were VERY ready for a break. The museum itself is very modern, and we took our time going through. After the exhibits we took a walk along the beach. Unfortunately for us tourists very little of the original fortifications remain, but we snapped a few pics and grabbed some sand to bring home. By this time it was fairly late in the day, so we decided to grab some food, take the bus back to Caen and stay another night.
We finally found an Internet Cafe today, and are getting caught up on a few things before checking out some of the local sights, then catching a train back to Paris. There appear to be no hostels with available beds though… this could be interesting (and expensive!) With any luck we’ll be in Paris for a night or two, then finally on to Belgium. Wish us and our poor, underdeveloped calf muscles luck!
just a note for when you get back; the CBC will release on 25 may 2007 a DVD on their coverage at Vimy Ridge called ‘Vimy Remembered’ for $14.98…’This special commemorative DVD highlights CBC News’ coverage of events surrounding the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge’.
That’s one I’ve pre-ordered already.
Hey that’s good to know.
Ya, I’m working on my tan and calf muscles here too….not. Sounds like a good day you guys! Was missing your update so glad to read this this morning. You guys look great in your facebook photos Jordie! Sure hope you can find some cheaper accommodations in Paris–can you go outside the city a bit and do better? xxoo
We can definately work on the tan today…14degrees woohoo! Wonder how long it will last?
And great photos! (yes I used my stalker abilities and hunted out Jordan’s facebook. I couldn’t help myself. hehe Josh you really need to jump on the facebook bandwagon…everybodies doing it!)
not everybody is on the facebook bandwagon…
I should habe brought shorts for the bike ride home, but I think exposing my dead man white arms to the world will be enough for this afternoon. I wil save the white tree trunks for another day..
Josh – just think of all this walking as a jump start to the hiking season… Scott was talking about Mt Kidd this morning when I showed him some pictures I took on easter weekend. (soon to be online) And be thankful that you were only a few km off the mark. I could see me having a total dumb and dumber moment commenting on how flat the rocky mountains are
Perhaps not everyone yet, but they’re jumping on pretty fast!
It IS a beautiful day! Just remember you city folks that when you get just a bit of snow there–we seem to get 6 inches of it out here, being almost butt-up to the mountains. But I was able to work on some furniture I’m refinishing out on the deck today and really enjoy the sun. The pilleated woodpeckers are screaming out there–they are the ones that Woody Woodpecker was designed after and they’re really quite incredible to view, just pretty raucous lol.
And yes I said woody Jord.
