Road trip: Feist & Chad VanGaalen

So The Girl and I made our way out to sunny Regina last Tuesday for to see Feist play some ditties. Imagine yourself front row, just right of centre (probably the only time I’ll use those words to describe myself – ha!), literally no more than a dozen feet away from one of Canada’s greatest singers. It was fairly intense to say the least! I guess she’s originally from Regina, so it was a homecoming of sorts for her. It was amazing to watch her Billy Idol sneer her way through the songs, shuffle around the stage in her bright red pumps that her grandmother gave her the night before (after winning 7 straight hands of Rummy), and bang on the guitar that must be as big as she is. The band was fun to watch too – the five of them kept switching off instruments and doubling up on others. One song in particular had us glued to the stage – but to the drummers, not Feist. I wish cameras had been allowed so I could post some shots of the multi-armed drum creature that came to life for just under 10 minutes…

And Chad VanGaalen was pretty cool too – they all seemed very uncomfortable in front of a full theatre house, but made it through their set with only a few self-depreciating comments (“we’re gonna play some new stuff now… not that anyone cares”).

In the end we can look back on 1500km driven, lots of rain, my first dent in the new car, and no Wii console to be found in any of the Future Shops along the way, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing. The concert and the company made it all worthwhile! Next up: Orlando in just over a week :)

  1. I’ve always wanted to see Chad VanGaalen. I think he might be doing the Folk Fest in Prince George this summer. Will have to check on that.
