larger images available on flickr (click through to see them), and if anyone wants originals I can email them to you.
wheeee!

one of my few “live” sightings of a bear:

Friday: Upper Kananaskis Lake
climbing the ridge above the path:

comind down off the ridge by the lake:

when is an island not an island?

Saturday: Kings Creek
bridge three action shot! (there is a rock flying through the air)

it’s overrrrr!

Great photos–I especially liked the bear and goat ones. Having been an avid May-long camper for so many years, and not getting out the past several, these all brought back memories of great times.
The last photo–these are First Nations (I’d guess Stony Nakota) ceremonial “robes” or “flags” (the ‘ball’ part is what is full of tobacco). These may have been tied in that spot because folks did Hanblecya (“vision quest”) there, or perhaps some other Ceremony was completed and the flags were taken there for another significant reason. Whatever the case, that is a TON of robes and likely indicates that each year more have been added to the same spot therefore representing several years of prayers/ceremony; this would also be indicated by the differences in the amount of fading of the different colours of fabric. It’s a real good idea to give wide berth to these sacred sites when you come across them. I would have loved to have been with you.
Ah, mystery solved, thanks Ma! Although the main path for the King Creek ridge hike goes right through this area, so I don’t think giving a wide berth is much of a possibility…
