February p/d/p

Theme: curves

Date: Saturday February 9th, 2008

Time: 9am GMT (converter found here, because scrolling down 4 posts is completely out of the question)

post them on flickr when you are done.

there, I didn’t forget to remind you about the upcoming p/d/p… now I just have to remember to take a picture.

**edit**

voting is up for March p/d/p, so go put in your two cents here.

what follows is the result of “plan B”… not to be confused with plan 9. Not bad for a mag light, my thumb and a 1 second shutter speed per letter.

pdp

Advance notice did allow for a few alternatives to be worked out ahead of time, so when I saw that it was going down to -35 with blowing snow around the time I was to be taking my picture… plan A got pushed aside and I worked on the indoor alternative. Plan A is noted and will hopefully take place in the relatively near future.

February p/d/p theme is…

advance notice is good, so I’m posting up the theme now. This way when I forget about the actual event I can at least claim I told you all about it. not that I’m planning to forget, but things happen.

The theme is “curves”. start those hamster wheels a-turnin’ people, because with actual advance notice you have no excuses.

I kinda dropped the ball on this but there was voting going on over at the invisible man’s site, which opened shortly after the January p/d/p and just closed on the 27th. Hopefully (meaning if both the invisible man and I stay on track and organized), shortly after each p/d/p event there will be a notice to go give your 2 cents on what you would like to do for the following month.

stay tuned, true believers!

January p/d/p

The date: this Saturday, January 12th, 2008.

The Time: 8pm GMT (that is 1pm for us here in Calgary)

The theme: no theme, the removal of the ORG and subsequent disorganization made a theme seem like a minor detail this go ’round.

The converter: here

December p/d/p

Date: December 8th

Time: 7am GMT, which is 11pm PST on December 7th, Midnight Mountain (December 8th), 1am Central, 2am on Eastern, and 2:30am in Newfoundland

Theme: Paper

well, I really dropped the ball on this. I got home around 10:30, and while trying to think about what I would do (likely set some paper on fire… fire is always good) I fell asleep on the couch, waking up around 630 on the morning of the 8th… 6 and a half hours late for p/d/p.

boo.

p/d/p November

From the pages of “in the nick of time news” comes this reminder of the impending p/d/p event!

6pm GMT on Saturday November 10th. This translates to 10am Pacific, 11am Mountain, and 7pm for some of us that may be nearer to Berlin than to Calgary.

anybody else, use this time converter to get your time zone.

This time the theme is “faces”… not feces Dave, faces. No rate my poo pictures on this go ’round.

It’s a good thing I checked my camera, my batteries just died. I know you all wanted to know that. :)

October…’d!

Well, that was a ridiculously quick month…

As we march ever onwards towards the months where snow and ice dominate the landscape, the weather has definitely taken a turn for the “worse”. There is much more of a bite in the air, and I need to keep reminding myself that 7 degrees in October is nowhere near the same thing as 7 degrees in July. Snow fell (and stayed) on my path for the first time earlier this week, but by this morning it was down to isolated patches that manage to avoid the sun enough to remain a solid.

While I struggle to accept that long pants, gloves and long sleeves are now required equipment for the morning commute, I have to say that this has been a most productive and enjoyable month of riding. In fact, I’d even go so far as to call it one of the best months since I got my bike. The colors of fall were spectacular, the bike is humming along (almost time for a pre-winter tune up), I feel great physically, I only got caught in really ugly weather once, and many more miles were put on the bike.

This morning I decided to take a picture of one part of my commute that makes me happy I don’t drive to work every day:

their road vs mine

Matthew Good

This has to be close to the 10th time I have seen Matthew Good perform, but by far the show on Tuesday was the most entertaining one I have seen.

I’ve seen him at the Coke Stage during Stampede (live or die with the stuffed animals was awesome), really bad venues like the Palace (anyone else remember the power cutting out to the stage?) and Cowboys, down at Mac Hall, but last night was definitely a first for me… a sit down acoustic show at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, and he owned the stage from the second he stepped out there.

Nihahi, not Nihani

for years I have insisted that the name of my favorite hike in Kananaskis is Nihani ridge, and not this Nihahi people kept correcting me with.

“must be a different hike” I says, “I know I read Nihani”.

well, today I went and did this hike for p/d/p (favorite place, mirrors and reflections) and it would appear I have found the source for my incorrect pronunciation.

Nihahi, not Nihani

This sign has been in pretty much the same condition since I first did this hike oh so many years ago (almost 20? holy crap!), and as a result I have always called it by what I saw.

more on the hike once I have time to sit and write about it properly.. plus pictures, and maybe a movie clip or two! :D
